Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
A varying degree of Seasonal Affective Disorder is felt
by thousands of individuals in all walks of life, all over
the world.
While it may not become debilitating and prevent you
from leaving your house or from maintaining a job, it can
leave you feeling listless, sluggish and unmotivated.
This condition is worsened by the shorter days and
longer nights of the winter months. The actual lack of
sunshine can be so powerful for some individuals that
they may benefit from a treatment of sitting under special
full spectrum light bulbs that have been
developed specifically for treating this disorder.
As well as the darker days of winter, the holiday
season in general is a trigger for depression to many
individuals. If this time of year causes you difficulty,
make a special point to do something to help another
person - volunteer at a homeless soup kitchen, read to
children at your local library, volunteer at the local animal
shelter, or just help a neighbor shovel their snow or
bring in their groceries. Anytime you do something to
help another person - when you see it in their eyes I
guarantee you that you'll feel better too!
